New Thor Japanese Trailer

With only seven days left until the release of Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, Marvel is pushing hard on the film’s marketing.  Despite taking the opening weekend of May (traditionally seen as the current first week of the summer movie season), the film is a tough sell as it blends fantasy and real-world elements around a character who sits on the second tier of Marvel’s superheroes.

Among the new marketing that’s been released is a Japanese trailer that gives a fair amount of screen-time to Hogun who is played by Tadanobu Asano (Asano just happens to be the only major Japanese star in the film).

New Thor Movie Clip

Here’s the first clip from Marvel’s upcoming Thor movie. No surprises here, it’s a longer version of the clip you’ve already seen in the trailer, in which Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her Scoobies (Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgård) discover the god of thunder just sort of lying on the ground in a big circle, out in the middle of the nowhere. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) awakens and he’s understandably confused.

If there’s one thing you should takeaway from this trailer it’s this: Apparently Thor’s hammer is self-aware. He calls for it like a lost dog. Comic book fans already knew this, but I suspect this will be something of a revelation to nearly everyone else.

THOR: Heir to the legendary throne of Asgard, Thor is a brave but restless warrior who longs for glory and the rush of battle. Armed with the mighty hammer Mjolnir, made from the sacred metal Uru and forged in the heart of a dying star, Thor is nearly unstoppable with the weapon in his hands. DR. JANE FOSTER: A brilliant and talented young scientist, Jane began her career doing particle research at Culver University in New York. LOKI: Younger brother to Thor, the mischievous and clever Loki is jealous of his older brother and often stands in his shadow. But when Thor is banished to Earth, Loki seizes the opportunity to rule Asgard. Through deception and a dangerous alliance, Loki sets his plan in motion and now the fate of the Earth and all the Nine Realms hangs in the balance.

LOKI Character Poster

SIF: The most distinguished warrior-maiden in all of Asgard, Sif is known for her boldness, cunning, and weapon expertise. Few can match her in combat… or in beauty. Unlike Thor, she is uninterested in the glamour and theatrics of fame… but like him, Sif craves the thrill of battle and the honor of serving her kingdom.

HEIMDALL: The gatekeeper and sworn guardian of Asgard, Heimdall can focus his extraordinary senses on any world across the cosmos, seeing and hearing all that transpires. These gifts, along with his intimidating size and battle prowess, make him the only Asgardian fit to keep watch for potential threats and defend his kingdom from those who would destroy it.

HEIMDALL Character Poster

ODIN: The king of Asgard and father to Thor and Loki, Odin has spent thousands of years establishing a delicate peace across the Nine Realms. But when Thor takes irresponsible actions that threaten that peace, Odin is forced to make the heartbreaking decision to banish him to earth… with the hope that Thor’s time amidst humanity will teach his son humility and allow him the chance to prove himself a worthy successor to the throne of Asgard.

ODIN Character Poster

HOGUN: Hogun was an Asgardian warrior and member of the Warriors Three and an ally to Thor ever since the thunder god's youth. Unlike most Asgardians, he is not an Aesir, but stems from a land conquered long ago by Mogul of the Mystic Mountain. He was a very quiet man, combined however with a flaring temper.
